About Me.....Mrs. Rachel Penner
I have been a teacher at the Mellen School for the past three years. This year I teach 6th and 7th grade. The subjects I teach are Math, Social Studies, Reading, and Language Arts. I am the only teacher in our district who teaches soley Middle School! I love working with adolescents! They inspire me and remind every day how fun it is to be a kid, and yet how difficult life can be through the eyes of a teen. Most of my students are not jaded by the negativity and come to school each day with a fresh outlook and perspective. It is quite inspiring! I have also had the pleasure of coaching both middle school and high school girl's basketball as well as co-ed elementary basketball. I am glad that I can take my love and knowledge for sports and basketball from the college playing level to coaching at the school I was taught in!
I am the daughter of two life-time educators and feel that teaching is in my blood and is my passion. I have an older brother and a younger sister who are my best friends. I am newly married and reside in Ashland, WI with my husband, Darryl, and our Cocker Spaniel puppy, Flintabattey Flonatin or Flin for short. I enjoy gardening, running, playing basketball and other sports, rollerblading, traveling, visiting with friends and family, and learning all about and using new technologies. At night I can be found keeping in touch with friends online, digital scrapbooking, watching sports on tv, or reading the latest novel for the book club I am in.
